Sample day in the life: (when there are no guests)
7:00 transfer to stables. Feed, groom, and exercise horses. You will be either schooling or riding out. The sanctuary has some wonderful sand tracks which allow for faster riding, as well as kilometers of untouched beaches where you might like to swim the horses.
11:00 Transfer home, rest and Lunch. Swimming or enjoying the sun and surroundings!
13:30 back to the horses. Ride or lunge, check for wounds, ticks – dip horses or engage in any stable duties such as clearing grass from the arena, cleaning tack or just spending time with the horses! They always appreciate some TLC and ground work.
17:30 Feed and water.
Please see itinerary for guests. There will be a maximum of 3 volunteers on site at a time.
On each day out of the itinerary, one or two volunteers will have the chance to ride with the guests and the other will help with logistics.
Guests are picked up from the lodge, so it is the volunteers duty to get horses ready and transfer them to the lodge for guests to mount and start the ride. In the evening, volunteers will take the horses back home.
The park rangers will give pointers of where to check for snares, or any damages to the fence. At times useful information for reserve management is to be gathered this will include game count amongst other data collection from horseback. We support the conservation efforts lead by the sanctuary team.
